Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Harvard

A 25-year-old Harvard man died following a two-vehicle crash that occurred in unincorporated Harvard on Thursday night.

On June 9, 2022, at 10:02 p.m., members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Harvard Police Department, Harvard Fire Department and Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District responded to a two vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a sedan.  

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2009 Maroon Honda Civic, driven by a 25-year-old Harvard man, was traveling westbound on Illinois Route 173 west of Altenburg Road.  For unknown reasons, the Honda was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of traffic.  A 2005 Blue Nissan Frontier was traveling eastbound in the eastbound lane of traffic and the Honda struck the Nissan at a high rate of speed in the 19400 block of Illinois Route 173.

The driver of the Honda died at the scene.  The driver of the Nissan suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Harvard Fire Department ambulance to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford.

Illinois Route 173 between Altenburg Road and Harvard Hills Road was closed for approximately seven hours. 

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
