Traffic & Security Details

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office offers off-duty details to citizens and businesses of McHenry County in order to provide security and/or traffic control at private events. If you have an event in need of these services, please fill out this form at least 48 hours prior to the start of the event.

General Information
  • Deputies are considered on-duty and have full arrest powers. They are in full uniform with marked cars. They are governed by the same rules and regulations as on-duty deputies.
  • All details require at least 2 Deputies & must be a minimum of 2 hours long
  • The fee is $70.00 per hour, per deputy.
  • Details are paid at a minimum of 2 hours per deputy.
  • The County shall be paid the total amount due within 10 days of the end of the detail.
  • All of the information entered into the form will be presented to the Sheriff or his designee for approval.
  • If detail is approved, the contract will be signed by the Sheriff or his designee and faxed or emailed to the contractor for signature. Contract must be signed and emailed to offdutydetails@mchenrycountyil.gov or faxed to 815-334-4620 48 hours prior to the event.
  • Once we receive the signed contract, the detail will be posted for deputies to sign up. Contractor will be notified of who will be working their event as soon as names are available.
Guidelines
  • For large events (more than 500 attendees), especially events with alcohol, a security plan has to be approved by MCSO for a temporary use permit to be issued by Planning and Development. At MCSO’s discretion, we may determine that additional deputies need to be hired and may also need to be on site for the entirety of the event to provide sufficient security.
  • All details require at least 2 Deputies & must be a minimum of 2 hours long
  • Events without alcohol:
    • 500 attendees or less = 2 Deputies 
    • More than 500 attendees = 4 Deputies
  • Events with alcohol:
    • 500 attendees or less = 4 Deputies
    • More than 500 attendees = 6 Deputies
