Sheriff’s Office Investigates Serious Injury Crash Near Marengo

A 39-year-old Marengo man was injured following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in the 16200 block of Poplar Road near Marengo.

On Monday, August 17, 2026, at approximately 10:19 p.m., members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry County Conservation Police, Marengo Police and Marengo Fire/Rescue District responded to a reported motorcycle crash on Poplar Road east of Illinois Route 23. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2014 Harley Davidson Touring was traveling eastbound on Poplar Road. This section of roadway is asphalt and as it changed to a gravel roadway, the operator lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle exited the roadway to the north and rolled. The male driver, who was the sole occupant of the motorcycle, was ejected. The driver was transported by a medical helicopter to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Riverside Hospital in Rockford, where he was listed in serious condition. A helmet was not located at the scene. Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit. /end/
