A 23-year-old Woodstock man died following a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Butternut Drive and Chestnut Drive in Dorr Township, unincorporated Crystal Lake.
On Sunday, September 20, 2026, at approximately 02:19 a.m., members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Crystal Lake Fire Protection District responded to a single-vehicle crash on Butternut Drive at the intersection with Chestnut Drive.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2024 Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Butternut Drive when the Toyota failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle exited the roadway to the south, traveled across Chestnut Drive and struck several trees. The male driver, who was the sole occupant of the Toyota, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Speed, weather conditions and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
