On Sunday afternoon, at the intersection of Johnsburg Road and Miller Road in unincorporated McHenry County, a 27-year-old McHenry man was pronounced deceased following a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
At 3:03 p.m. on May 25, 2025, emergency personnel from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Johnsburg Police Department, McHenry County Conservation District, McHenry Township Fire Protection District and Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded to the scene of the crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Johnsburg Road when it collided with the driver’s side of a 2021 Honda Civic, which was turning north onto Johnsburg Road from Miller Road. The impact caused both vehicles to come to rest within the intersection.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet and was the sole occupant of the Kawasaki, was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The 17-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was also transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with minor injuries. The 45-year-old passenger in the Civic was not injured. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts, and the vehicle’s airbags deployed as a result of the crash.
The speed of the motorcycle is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The incident remains under active investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
