A 57-year-old Capron man died following a single-vehicle crash in the 24700 block of Illinois Route 173 in Dunham Township near Harvard.
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 3:03 p.m. the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the Harvard Fire Protection District responded to a single-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 173 to the west of White Oaks Road, west of Chemung. The vehicle involved was heavily damaged and located in a field north of the roadway.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 173. The Corvette was passing vehicles at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. For unknown reasons, the Corvette exited the roadway to the north, went airborne, and rolled over, coming to rest on its top. The sole occupant of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries because of the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Speed and reckless driving are believed to be factors of the crash. The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
