About the Program
The Citizen’s Police Academy consists of a series of classes, discussions, and demonstrations of the various operations and divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. The goal of the CPA is to facilitate an enjoyable, educational, hands-on learning experience in the field of law enforcement while expanding our communities’ knowledge of the various services we provide.

2025 CPA Schedule
Applications are due Monday, September 1 at noon.
Class is held on Tuesdays, September 9 through November 18. 6 – 8:30 p.m. at McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. There will be no class on Tuesday, November 11 for Veteran’s Day.

Volunteer Eligibility
To be a participant you must be at least 18 years of age, complete an application, and pass a criminal background check. Preference is given to those that live in McHenry County. Those who work in McHenry County or are non-residents are also encouraged to apply. The Citizens Police Academy is offered free of charge. Participants who successfully complete the CPA will have the opportunity to apply in becoming a participant in the Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Program.
