On August 5, at about 1:00 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the Crystal Lake Police Department, and the Crystal Lake Fire Department responded to a crash involving a car and an electric bike on Walkup Road and Dvorak Drive in unincorporated Crystal Lake.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a Super73 (Class II) electric bicycle was traveling westbound near Dvorak Drive and a 2017 Ford C-Max was traveling northbound on Walkup Road. For unknown reasons, the bicycle failed to yield to the Ford while crossing the roadway and the collision occurred.
The driver of the electric bicycle, a fifteen-year-old juvenile, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital and then airlifted to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. The child remains in serious condition. The driver of the Ford, a sixty-six-year-old woman from Crystal Lake, is uninjured and cooperating fully with the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
