6/13/2016 12:00:00 AM

A 46-year-old Waukegan man and a 38-year-old Chicago woman were hospitalized Sunday evening after a traffic crash that occurred at 6:18 p.m. on Roberts Road at Lamphere Road in unincorporated Island Lake.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver, John F. Hicks, was operating a 2016 Harley Davidson with a female passenger while traveling southbound on Roberts Road when for unknown reasons the motorcycle struck the rear of a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle.  Hicks was transported to Advocate Condell Hospital and listed in critical condition.  The female passenger was also transported to Advocate Condell Hospital where she was treated and later released.  The driver of the 2011 Harley was uninjured and not transported.

None of the individuals involved were wearing helmets and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.   Hicks was issued two citations: Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and DUI, a Class A Misdemeanor.

An investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit.  Members of the Wauconda Fire Protection District and Nunda Fire Protection District responded and the Island Lake Police Department also assisted at the scene.
