Press Release- Sheriff’s Office Reminds Residents to Lockup Lawn Equipment:

4/8/2020 12:00:00 AM

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office reminds residents to keep a watchful eye on their lawn tractors, zero turn mowers, and other heavy duty lawn equipment and to always "lock it up".

Thieves can be watching for opportunities of equipment and buildings that are left unsecure. The Sheriff's Office encourages residents to look after equipment between uses, not just every few weeks. Heavier equipment, like zero turn mowers and lawn tractors may be sought because of their high price value.  Equipment should have the keys removed and secured.  Storage areas, garages, outbuildings, pole barns, should be locked and closely looked after.

Security cameras in good working order and that have recording capabilities can be helpful to document suspicious persons and activity. But the best deterrence to help protect your valuables is you.

·         Be attentive.

·         Report suspicious persons and activity timely to police.

·         Keep documents and photos of serial numbers and equipment.

·         Watch out for your property, family, friends, and your neighborhood.

Please contact the McHenry County Sheriff's Office at 815-338-2144 or your local police department to report suspicious behavior, criminal activity and to request an extra patrol.  Thank you for doing your part in "Looking after and locking it up."
