Press Release- Fatal Car versus School Bus Crash

On August 25, 2014 at approximately 6:44 A.M., members of the Marengo Rescue Squad, Union Fire Protection District, Illinois State Police, McHenry County Coroner's Office, Coral Township Highway Department, and McHenry County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of a head-on crash within the 17200 block of E. Coral Road, in unincorporated Coral Township.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 2006 Ford Focus was headed eastbound on E. Coral Road when for unknown reasons it crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2009 IC CE300 school bus head-on.

The driver of the IC bus was transported to Woodstock Centegra Hospital with minor injuries, where she was treated and released.  The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene by the McHenry County Coroner.  There were no other occupants within either vehicle and the school bus was not on a school route at the time of the traffic crash.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and front airbags deployed within the Ford.

The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Coroner's Office and McHenry County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Unit.
