On 04/17/2014 at 9:05 PM the McHenry County Sheriff's Office was called to assist Crystal Lake Fire Department with Traffic Control at a rescue operation.  Deputies arrived and shut down Haligus Rd. in Rural Woodstock, to civilian traffic at the request of Fire Command.  This closure remained in place for approximately 3 hours while Crystal Lake Fire Department conducted their rescue operation.

During this time the following information was obtained regarding this incident.  A 15 year old male was attending a party for another teen at a residence located in the 6100 block of Haligus Rd., Woodstock, IL.  Witnesses at the scene advised that the teen stripped off some of his clothing and jumped in to the pond from a pier.  When he failed to surface Crystal Lake Fire Department was called.  None of the information obtained at this time indicates that alcohol or drugs were a factor.  There is no indication of any other criminal activity in this incident.  The McHenry County Sheriff's Office does not anticipate any arrests or criminal charges as a result of this incident.

UPDATE: As of 10:40 AM on April 18, 2014. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office was saddened to hear that despite the extraordinary efforts of the fire and medical personnel involved, the young man involved in this incident has died.  Our sympathies lie with his family as they go through this difficult time.

Nothing has been discovered by us up to this time that would indicate that this is anything other than the tragic occurrence that it appears to be.

The Coroner's office will be the point of contact for additional information regarding a determination on the cause and manner of his death.

Inquiries regarding the rescue operation should be directed to the Crystal Lake Fire Department.

Again the McHenry County Sheriff's Office would like extend our sympathies to this young man's family.
