A 5-year-old Marengo boy is in stable but guarded condition following a two-vehicle traffic crash at Coral Road and South Union Road, in unincorporated Coral Township.

On September 14, 2018, at 3:50 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, Union Police Department, Marengo Rescue Squad, Marengo Fire Department, and Union Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash at East Coral Road and South Union Road.  The crash involved a 2001 Ford F150 and a 2013 Toyota Sienna.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Ford was traveling eastbound on Coral Road when it failed to stop at the posted stop sign and crashed into the Toyota which was traveling northbound on South Union Road.  All occupants were wearing their seatbelts, airbags deployed within both vehicles, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The 5-year-old passenger inside of the Ford was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital by Flight for Life and was later listed in stable but guarded condition.  The driver of the Ford was treated and released at the scene.  Both occupants of the Toyota were transported to Huntley Centegra Hospital where they were listed in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
